The Domaine de Nidolères in the Pyrénées-Orientales department is preparing to plant 4.5 hectares of vines under an agrivoltaic system by the beginning of 2018: a world first for viticulture.
The agrivoltaic installation will be implemented on a plot of land that has been fallow for almost 10 years. Pierre Escudié, the winegrower, will thus expand his vineyard from 25 to 32.5 hectares. The Chamber of Agriculture of the Pyrénées-Orientales department is involved in the project and will carry out the agronomic monitoring of the demonstration system. Within this framework, a control plot with a size of 3 hectares will be used to evaluate the impact of shading on the physiology of the vines and the characteristics of the wines, with the help of microvinification.
